Jane Ortner celebration

INSPIRING KIDS WITH MUSIC: Michelle Obama will be the keynote speaker at the Grammy Museum’s Jane Ortner Education Award luncheon at Club Nokia on Wednesday, 7/16. Jane Ortner, the late wife of renowned entertainment attorney Chuck Ortner, was an elementary school teacher who inspired, and was beloved by, countless students. Guitar in hand, Jane used music to help teach basic academic subjects, but also the important non-academic skills of cooperation, collaboration and communication. “After I joined the Board of the Grammy Museum,” Chuck explained, “I realized that there could not be a more fitting tribute to Jane’s memory than to create a program as part of the Museum’s educational mission that would honor teachers who, like Jane, successfully bring music into the classroom to enhance the educational experience.” Janelle Monae will be honored with the 2014 Jane Ortner Artist Award, while SoCal-based teacher Sunshine Cavalluzzi will receive the Jane Ortner Educator Award.
