WICKED CLEVER! MTV is bringing back TRL for one day only in honor of America’s Prom Queen of 2014, Ariana Grande. She’ll take over the MTV Times Square studio for Total Ariana Live next Wednesday (7/2) at 7pm ET/PT, with MTV News’ Sway Calloway hosting. During the 30-minute special, Ariana will perform a stripped-down version of “Problem,” debut her new single “Break Free,” and make a “surprise announcement.” As a social setup, fans are being encouraged to bust out the hashtag #TotalArianaLive. The pint-sized star says it’s “a huge honor to be able to bring back a show like TRL, I used to love watching it growing up.” The news also occasioned a P.T. Barnum-like statement from Republic EVP Charlie Walk. “Only one artist has the power to turn the lights back on at 1515 Broadway in the iconic TRL studios, and that's Ariana Grande. The transformation to Total Ariana Live represents her one-of-a-kind star power combined with MTV's immense multimedia platform, setting the stage for the ultimate global partnership.
