TCW call it quits

THE WARS’ END: Joy Williams and John Paul White of Americana duo The Civil Wars have announced on their website that they are officially parting ways. The four-time Grammy winners have been on hiatus since 2012 (their sensibility/Columbia sophomore album nonetheless debuted at #1 last year). “I am saddened and disappointed by the ending of this duo, to say the very least,” reads a statement from Williams. “JP is a tremendous musician, and I will always be grateful for the music we were able to create together.” White expressed his “sincere thanks to all who were part of the arc of The Civil Wars,” adding, “My deep appreciation goes out to all who supported, disseminated and enjoyed the music. Whatever shape or form the next chapter takes, thanks for being a large part of this one.” As a farewell gift to fans, the pair have uploaded their aching rendition of “You Are My Sunshine,” recorded in 2010 and released on a limited-edition vinyl single but never before available digitally. Williams referred to “Sunshine” as “a token of my gratitude” for supporters. “Looking ahead, I’m excited to share the music that I am writing and recording in the midst of this difficult transition," she declared. "I’ve loved being back in the studio, and have missed performing live. I look forward to seeing you soon.” (8/5a)
