U2 on sale

IRISH UP: The splashy free delivery—announced at the end of Apple's madly hyped Tuesday event—of U2's new set, Songs of Innocence (Interscope) to every iTunes user's library was just part of the iconic Irish band's onslaught at the download emporium. Now iTunes has put the entire U2 catalog on sale for $5.99-$7.99, and we're seeing an array of titles bubbling up on the album chart. The Joshua Tree is the biggest beneficiary thus far, rising to #16; two versions of the singles anthology U218 sit at #28 and #34; Achtung Baby is #32; Rattle and Hum is #40. The band's other albums are scattered down the chart. How much of a windfall might the combined giveaway and sale yield? It's also probably safe to conclude that U2's salute to Joey Ramone has helped fuel the re-entry of The Ramones' Greatest Hits into the store's Top 100. (9/11p)
