FLOYD FIRING ON ALL CYLINDERS

Roger Faxon Welcomes the Band Back to EMI, While Roger Waters Prepares to Film The Wall
EMI and Pink Floyd have patched things up. The company has inked a new, five-year global partnership with the band for its catalog, MusicWeek reported. The deal, which covers 14 studio and three live albums, would appear to resolve the various disputes between the Floyd and EMI, thus putting an end to recent legal skirmishes over royalty payments and online sales.

By re-upping the beloved and perennially potent British band, embattled EMI starts off the new year on a positive note, following the losses of the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, Queen and Radiohead during the Guy Hands regime.

In making the announcement, Roger Faxon said, "Pink Floyd are one of the most important and influential bands of all time, and I know I speak for everyone at EMI when I say that it is a privilege to have the opportunity to work with them. We're looking forward to continuing to help the band reach new and existing fans through their incredible body of work.” Sounds like a plan.

In closely related news, Roger Waters revealed that he’ll release a live DVD version of The Wall, which will document one of the most lavish and expensive tours ever undertaken. There’s no mention of a releasing label, but the artist’s most recent album, 2005’s classical work Ca Ira (There Is Hope), was released through Sony Music Distribution in the States, while his preceding solo LPs dating back to 1984’s The Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking came out on Columbia.

Waters’ remounting of the Floyd classic was the #2 tour of 2010 in the U.S. behind Bon Jovi, taking in $89.5 million, with the next leg scheduled for 2011.

The filming and recording will take place a six-show run at London’s O2 Arena in May, according to Waters official site. "For these shows, photographs are permitted but we must insist on NO Flash photography," the statement read. "Flash wipes out the images projected on the Wall, which are the most important part of the show. Any person who uses Flash will have their camera confiscated and could be removed from the Arena."

Meanwhile, David Gilmour will reportedly join Waters in a performance of “Comfortably Numb” during a select gig on the tour, which will crisscross Europe between March and July, and it would certainly make sense for the former and present Floyd leaders to reunite during the O2 run...
