THE CIVIL WARS, FLEET FOXES PURSUE THE VIBE

Nashville Folk-Country Duo, Seattle Indie Rockers Rate New Entries
Call it the neo-country-folk Americana revival, with a pair of up-and-comers entering the HITS Vibe-Rater chart of new and developing acts.

Nashville’s The Civil Wars are a hybrid duo featuring Joy Williams and John Paul White that has caused a commotion with their full-length debut, Barton Hollow, on their own sensibility records, which has sold 57k albums in less than two months. With big video play on the title track from early adopter CMT, thanks to believer Jay Frank, the duo’s album climbed at #1 on iTunes on its first week of release. Look for stateside headline tour dates after a flurry of well-received SXSW performances. Early radio partners include KFOG and WZGC, with band making appearances on The Tonight Show and NPR’s All Things Considered last month. Young phenom Nate Yetton, Williams’ husband, has been guiding the pair to its impressive breakout as manager. For the complete Vibe entry, click here.

Seattle-based indie darlings Fleet Foxes follow up their acclaimed folk-rock 2008 debut with plenty of PoMo love from WBRU and WWCD for “Helplessness Blues,” the title track from their new Sub Pop release, which hits physical retail on Tuesday (3/29). Their self-titled debut has sold 211k in the U.S. and is platinum in the U.K., where it hit #3 on the album charts. Stateside tour dates, which began March 12 with stops at Edgefest and SXSW. The band was founded by high schoolmates Robin Pecknold and Skyler Skjelset over a mutual love of Bob Dylan, Neil Young and Brian Wilson. For more info, click here.
