I.R.S./Virgin Philly Alt Hip-Hop Duo and Epic Swag Pop Pair Storm the Sweet Sixteen
A couple of new acts “pop” into the Vibe-Raters Sweet Sixteen this week, as both I.R.S./Virgin alternative hip-hop duo Chiddy Bang and Epic swag poppers Karmin secure spots on the list of new and developing artists ready to break wide-open.

Philly-based multi-racial duo Chiddy Bang, consisting of Chidera “Chiddy” Anamege and Noah “Xaphoon Jones” Beresin has been together since late 2008, when they first met at Drexel University. Using samples from the likes of Radiohead, Sufjan Stevens, Passion Pit and MGMT, the twosome’s debut album, Breakfast, entered the Top 10 on the sales chart this week after an iTunes exclusive. The single, “Ray Charles,” is now happening at two radio formats, including Top 40 and crossover, with plenty of believers. The video has generated more than 2.5 million on line views. Look for a performance on mtvU Woodie Awards this spring after appearances on Leno (2/24) and Conan (2/.27) last week. For the complete Vibe entry, click here.

Viral sensations Karmin are one of the first L.A. Reid signings to his revitalized Epic. After a Saturday Night Live performance, Amy Heidermann and Nick Noonan have gone from their online covers of Chris Brown’s “Look at Me Now,” Nicki Minaj’s “Super Bass” and LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem” to their own hit, “Brokenhearted.” The song is already finding followers at Top 40, where it has been added at WXKS and is spinning at Z100, KIIS, WKSC, WFLZ, KMVQ, WKST and more. The pair’s in the VEVO Lift program, racking up 150 million YouTube views on previous vids. An EP, Hello, is coming out later this spring, followed by their debut album. For more info, click here.
