In the Latest Roundup, Jesse Spotlights a Pair of Trios, One From the U.K., the Other From NC

By Jesse Beer-Dietz

Some impressive talent in this week’s batch, including a group that’s blowin’ up on the other side of the pond and is poised to make an impact in the States this year. Also, check out an update for a band we’ve been following for some time. Keep feedin’ the inbox: [email protected]

SPOTLIGHT
N-Dubz
(www. myspace.com/ndubz; @nDubz): Without question, this is one of the most culturally significant groups in contemporary British pop music. The trio—Tulisa, her cousin Dappy and childhood friend Fazer—have sold north of 1.2 million units of their debut album, Uncle B (2008) and its 2009 follow-up, Against All Odds. Between them, the three wrote, produced, engineered, mixed and mastered both albums in their entirety. Check out these stats: N-Dubs have won three MOBO Awards and received a 20109 BRIT nomination, as well as selling out a 21-date U.K. tour, while racking up 20 million-plus TouTube views; they’ve also scored a #1 single. Look for their U.S. launch later this year via Max Gousse and his staff at Island Def Jam.

BUZZIN’
The Gardiner Sisters (www.myspace.com/gardinersisters): Hey, have you picked up on what seems to be shaping up as the latest musical trend? We’re referring, of course, to singing sister groups, a number of which are picking up some major steam at the moment. You can now add The Gardiner Sisters to this burgeoning list of talented twosomes. To date, these three siblings have released two EPs and have more than 60 videos on YouTube—originals and covers both. The sisters blend contemporary, acoustic and a cappella into a killer trifecta, which they’ve been purveying in and around the Carolinas, consistently getting a great response. Complete with catchy pop elements and amazing three-part harmonies, these girls are rapidly climbing through the ranks, drawing comparisons to everyone from Colbie Caillat to the Dixie Chicks. To get an idea of The Gardiner sisters’ signature sound, check out their video for “My Way or the Highway” at the top of their MySpace page.

BAND UPDATE
Kicking Daisies
are off to a roaring start in 2011, having won Radio Disney’s “Next Big Thing” talent competition. As a result, their first single, “Keeping Secrets,” has been rapidly moving up Radio Disney’s Top 30 Countdown and currently resides at #16. The accompanying music video is currently featured on MTV.com, Music Choice and Comcast, among other outlets. In addition, the band has just finished filming its first national commercial for the launch of Bazooka Candies Baby Bottle Pops Rattlerz. Kicking Daisies star in the commercial and perform the theme song, which they wrote. It begins airing on Feb. 25 on numerous cable channels, including Nickelodeon, Disney XD and Cartoon Network.
