Thanks to her surprise Best New Artist win, Esperanza Spalding’s Heads Up/Telarc/Concord/UMGD album, Chamber Music Society, is looking at sales in the 15-20k range, which should give her a chart debut.

BIEBER IN NEVER NEVER LAND

Teenpop Phenom Lands Top Debut in a Week of Grammy Spikes
Next week will see a variety of spikes for Grammy winners and performers, which our crack retail department will keep an eye on as to how it will affect next week’s chart.

With Justin Bieber one of last week’s big winners on the post-Grammy chart, he’s poised to score again next week on Never Say Never, a companion to his 3D biopic, which should bow at between 115-125k in sales, joining both My World 2.0 and My Worlds Acoustic in the upper regions of the charts. That will make it easily the top debut, and appears a certain #1.

Of course, that’s based on one-day sales reports from those music retailers who haven’t deleted us from their data bases.

Up next, is Hillsong/EMI Christian group Hillsong United, an Ausralian “praise and worship band” which originated as part of the youth church of the same name. No, we’re not kidding. Look for a first-week total of between 30-40k for their album Aftermath, which is theoretically about as far away as possible from the Stones release of the same name.

Saddle Creek folk-rock singer-songwriter Conor Oberst’s new Bright Eyes album, The People’s Key, is his first since 2007’s Cassadaga, and looks to debut in the 25-30k range.

Thanks to her surprise Best New Artist win, Esperanza Spalding’s Heads Up/Telarc/Concord/UMGD album, Chamber Music Society, is looking at sales in the 15-20k range, which should give her a chart debut.

PJ Harvey’s first album for Vagrant in the U.S., Let England Shake, has been garnering some expected rave reviews, and will bow with 15-18k. It’s her first release since 2007’s White Chalk.

Nofiti/Asylum R&B vet Ginuwine is up next with an estimated 15-18k for his new album, Elgin, his seventh studio effort.

ATO critical darlings Drive By Truckers return with Go-Go Boots, the follow-up to their most successful release yet, last year’s The Big To-Do. Look for it to enter the chart with sales from 12-15k.

Finally, look for Victory hardcore rockers Emmure, who sold 5k in their first day at retail, to end up between 10-15k.

The market was up 17% vs. last week, down 18% vs. same week last year and now down 15% year to date.

And you thought Hosni Mubarak had it bad.
