With Glee placing both its Christmas album at #3 and Vol. 4 at #6 for the month, Jackie Evancho’s O Holy Night at #4 (635k for the month, 994k total) and Michael Jackson’s posthumous Epic album Michael at #7 (377k), Rob Stringer’s Sony Music nabbed a total of five in the December Top 10.
Aside from Evancho, the hottest end-of-year newcomer had to be Young Money/Cash Money/Universal Motown’s female hip-hop star Nicki Minaj, who crashed the Top 5 with 415k during the month for a total of nearly 800k.
Def Jam/IDJ’s Rihanna ( #8, 342k/690k), Reprise/WB’s Josh Groban (#9, 330k/619k) and Roc-A-Fella/IDJ’s Kanye West (#10, 326k/823k) round out the holiday leaders.
Other notable results:
Thanks to low pricing and appearance in circulars, Eminem’s Recovery added another 300k to its year-best total of 3.35 million for Shady/Aftermath/Interscope, building up some momentum for what is expected to be a triumphant Grammy night.
Capitol/EMI’s Katy Perry album, Teenage Dream, continues to show resilience, chalking up another 282k for the month with a total that now should top a million in the first week’s of 2011.
