With Glee placing both its Christmas album at #3 and Vol. 4 at #6 for the month, Jackie Evancho’s O Holy Night at #4 (635k for the month, 994k total) and Michael Jackson’s posthumous Epic album Michael at #7 (377k), Rob Stringer’s Sony Music nabbed a total of five in the December Top 10.

BOYLE AND SWIFT TOP THE YEAR-END BEST SELLERS

Two Glee Cast Albums, Jackie Evancho, Michael Make It a Merry December for Stringer’s Sony

A grandmother and a 20-year-old topped the year-end list of the record biz’s best-sellers.

Susan Boyle’s The Gift sold slightly more than a million copies during the month of December, boosting her Columbia album to 1.8 million total, edging out Taylor Swift’s Big Machine album, Speak Now, which moved 918k during the month to approach 3 million.

Aside from Evancho, the hottest end-of-year newcomer had to be Young Money/Cash Money/Universal Motown’s female hip-hop star Nicki Minaj, who crashed the Top 5 with 415k during the month for a total of nearly 800k.

Def Jam/IDJ’s Rihanna ( #8, 342k/690k), Reprise/WB’s Josh Groban (#9, 330k/619k) and Roc-A-Fella/IDJ’s Kanye West (#10, 326k/823k) round out the holiday leaders.

Other notable results: Atlantic’s Kid Rock finished just outside the Top 10, while Justin Bieber’s My Worlds Acoustic, a Wal-Mart exclusive on Island/IDJ, ended up at #13.

Thanks to low pricing and appearance in circulars, Eminem’s Recovery added another 300k to its year-best total of 3.35 million for Shady/Aftermath/Interscope, building up some momentum for what is expected to be a triumphant Grammy night.

Capitol/EMI’s Katy Perry album, Teenage Dream, continues to show resilience, chalking up another 282k for the month with a total that now should top a million in the first week’s of 2011.

Other best sellers for the month included Atlantic’s T.I., Big Machine’s Rascal Flatts, Island/IDJ’s Mariah Carey, Broken Bow’s Jason Aldean, Decca’s Andrea Bocelli, Jive/JLG’s R. Kelly, Mercury Nashville’s Sugarland, Capitol Nashville’s Keith Urban and Lady Antebellum.

This week, look for the Christmas titles to drop out completely, with Taylor Swift hanging on to #1 with a total of between 75-80k…and a happy new year to you, too.
