GRAINGE HOME AT UMG

CEO Lucian Grainge Gets Chairman Stripes With Morris' Exit
The transfer of power is now complete. Lucian Grainge is large and in charge of keeping the lights on at Universal Music Group.

Vivendi today announced the exec has added the Chairman title to his previously held role of Chief Executive Officer at UMG, with the announcement last week of Doug Morris being let out of the remainder of his contract to take over at Sony Music on July 1.

Grainge was set to assume the Chairmanship at the end of the year. He continues to report to Jean-Bernard Levy, CEO of Vivendi while serving as a member of the Vivendi Management Board. He was also named to the Board of Directors at Vivendi's game company Activision Blizzard.

Commented Lévy: "We are delighted to appoint Lucian to the top position in music worldwide. His track record over the last 30 years in the music business is impeccable. He is perfectly qualified to lead UMG through the digital era across the globe."

The veteran British record exec started his career with CBS/April Music in 1979, specializing in A&R and and talent development, rising to senior management positions at PolyGram UK and Universal Music internationally in 2005.

Under Grainge's leadership, Universal Music Group International, with branches in more than 50 countries, has grown its marketshare worldwide, broken global acts and led the music industry in developing a range of new digital services. He was hand-picked by Morris and Vivendi to be Doug's successor.
