ADELE CONTINUES ROLLING
IN NEW YEAR

Drake, Young Jeezy, Lady A, Black Keys Round Out Top 5
Adele opens the new year just as she closed out the old one…leading the pack.

With the final sales tally of 2011 and the first chart of 2012, the XL/Columbia diva continues to rule the roost, landing at #1 with another 146k in sales, giving her 5.8 million going into Grammy season, which should reinvigorate the album. 21 is the best-selling album since Usher’s Confessions, which sold 7.9 million back in 2004.

Young Money/Cash Money/Universal Republic’s Drake is up next at #2, with 72k, for a total of 1.2 million in its seventh week for his sophomore effort, Take Care.

Def Jam/IDJ scores with Young Jeezy’s TM 103: Hustler Ambition, which goes to #3 in its second week, with 63k giving it a two-week total of 300k.

Capitol Nashville/EMI’s Lady Antebellum follows at #4, with another 52k, while Nonesuch/WB’s The Black Keys park in the #5 slot, adding 51k to its cume of 437k.

The rest of the Top 10 includes Universal Republic’s Florence + the Machine (#6, 50k); Interscope’s ubiquitous LMFAO (#7, 49k); Capitol/EMI’s Coldplay (#8, 46k for a total of 1 million); Def Jam/IDJ’s Rihanna (#9, 43k) and YM/CM/Universal Republic’s Lil Wayne (#10, 36k), the latter giving Monte Lipman’s label three in the Top 10.

Adele’s 19 creeps back to #12, now up to 1.7 million, while Startime/Columbia’s Foster the People continues its impressive run at #13 with 32k.

Other hot sellers include Big Beat/Atlantic’s Best New Artist candidate DJ deluxe Skrillex, whose digital only album Bangarang scores 23k to land at #19, after he urged fans to “steal it” if they couldn’t afford to buy one.

The new releases are pretty slim this month, with Blue Note/EMI’s Little Willies (with Norah Jones), Island/IDJ’s Snow Patrol and WB’s Waka Flocka Flame the top three releases on Jan. 10, while Razor & Tie’s Kidz Bop Kids and RCA Nashville’s Martina McBride head the release slate on Jan. 17. Look for Epic’s The Fray, Capitol/EMI’s Now 41 and Concord/Hear Music’s Paul McCartney standards album on Feb. 8, while YM/CM/Universal Republic’s Nicki Minaj is slated for Feb. 14.
