J COLE WILL BE CROWNED KING
OF NEXT WEEK’S ALBUM CHART

Roc Nation/Columbia Rapper Is En Route to a Possible Quarter-Million First Week
The entire industry, it seems, was taken by surprise when the initial sales reports on Tuesday’s releases started coming in, revealing that J Cole’s debut album, Cole World: The Sideline Story, was running away not only from this week’s other new releases but from every other album in the marketplace.

Cole’s impressive start, which will land his LP in the neighborhood of 250k, represents the first chart-topper from Roc Nation since entering into its partnership with Sony Music. Not only that, but as the bible helpfully points out, the 26-year-old Roc Nation/Columbia rapper will be the first debuting solo artist to bow at #1 since B.o.B’s The Adventures of Bobby Ray accomplished this feat, albeit with 84k. Further, Cole will have the biggest debut for any act’s first album since Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday racked up a 375k first week last December.

Major props go to Roc Nation principals Jay-Z, Jay Brown and Tata. Cole was the first artist signed to the company back in 2009.

Cole’s torrid start is one of two triumphs this week for Mark PittsBystorm Entertainment, whose artist Miguel has scored his second #1 at Urban with “Quickie.” Cole is a Bystorm management client.

Born in Frankfort, Germany, and raised in Fayetteville, NC, Cole released his first mixtape, The Come Up, in 2007 right after graduating from college. Jay-Z signed the newcomer after hearing one of The Come Up's songs, "Lights Please." Cole dropped his second mixtape, The Warm Up, in June of 2009 to a growing buzz, then rapped on the track "A Star Is Born" from Hova’s The Blueprint 3. It’s dramatically apparent that these early moves are now paying off big-time.
