MTV IS #1 FOR Q1

Jersey Shore, Teen Mom, 16 and Pregnant, America’s Best Dance Crew, Real World: DC Lead the Way
Never mind Butler, Michigan State, West Virginia or Duke. MTV is #1.

The channel topped the ratings for persons and females 12-34 for Q1 2010, with five of the Top 15 original cable series in both categories, more than any other network.

Jersey Shore, Teen Mom, 16 and Pregnant, America’s Best Dance Crew and Real World: DC helped MTV finish as the #1 ad-supported cable network for the 18th consecutive year. The channel also finished with double-digit growth (+11%) year-to-ear and vs. Q4 ’09 (+26%).

“What’s most exciting is that this quarter’s success is not just about one series, but rather a combination of new hits,” boasted MTV Programming chief Tony DiSanto. “Our goal is creative diversity and we’re working on overdrive to deliver that to our viewers. I’m looking forward to the launch of our scripted programming next quarter along with live programming, comedy and animation hits and, of course the final season of The Hills. And, no, I will not give you Snooki’s cell phone number.”‪

The first quarter was also marked by MTV’s partnership with George Clooney and Tenth Planet Productions on the fundraising telethon, Hope for Haiti Now, which drew a cumulative audience of more than 83 million viewers and a gross average audience of more than 24 million viewers in the U.S., the most widely distributed televised fundraising event in history across platforms, which has raised more than $66 million to date for Haiti relief and recovery efforts.

Jersey Shore was the most-watched cable program among persons 12-34, with the finale breaking series records as the highest-rated original series telecast on MTV in two years, attracting 4.8 million viewers.

The newly launched Teen Mom was the #4 series among persons 12-34 and #3 for females 12-34, averaging over 2.4 million viewers per episode.

The second season of 16 and Pregnant finished #2 among females 12-34, and #5 for persons 12-34, delivering an average of more than 2.5 million viewers per episode.

Other breakout hits included season five of America’s Best Dance Crew and the latest season of Real World, this time taking place in the nation’s capitol.
