ADELE GOES "DEEP"

XL/Columbia Pop Diva Grabs Fourth Week at #1, Goes Over a Million
Adele continues to be the top sales story of 2011, as the U.K. pop diva shatters the sophomore jinx, with her XL/Columbia album, 21, returning to #1, adding another 88k to a total that now soars past one million. At the same time, her debut album, 19, also sees its sales top platinum.

That was enough for her to leapfrog past last week’s #1, Jive/JLG’s Britney Spears, whose Femme Fatale falls to #2 with 77k.

A&M/Octone’s Hollywood Undead is the week’s top debut at #3, with 67k for James Diener’s label on their second album, American Tragedy, after its debut, Swan Songs, sold more than 750k.

Sumerian Yorkshire metal band Asking Alexandria’s Reckless & Relentless (#10) is the only other Top 10 debut.

Atlantic’s Wiz Khalifa dips #2-4 with Rolling Papers, while Jive/JLG’s Chris Brown (#5) rounds out the Top 5.

In its first week at traditional retail, Universal International/Sony Music’s Songs for Japan lands at #6, Glassnote’s Mumford & Sons continues strong at #7, Arista/RMG’s Jennifer Hudson is #8 and Gospocentric’s Kirk Franklin is #9, giving RCA/Jive four of the Top 10. Former label group boss Barry Weiss left a house on fire when he moved over to UMG.

Other Top 50 newcomers include 429/Savoy’s Robbie Robertson (#13), eOne’s Jim Jones (#20), Walt Disney’s Daft Punk Tron: Legacy Reconfigured (#22), veteran Shanachie R&B group Mint Condition (#37), Walt Disney’s Tangled soundtrack (#42) and Musical Freedom’s Tiesto (#50).

Last week’s prime-time Academy of Country Music Awards telecast also sees Atlantic’s Zac Brown Band (#16), Universal Republic Nashville’s The Band Perry (#39) and Sony Nashville’s Miranda Lambert (#41) re-entering the chart.

The ACMs also spurred double-digit gains for Capitol Nashville’s Lady Antebellum (#34-25, +26%), Broken Bow’s Jason Aldean (#23-12, +24%), Big Machine’s Taylor Swift (#32-23, +24%) and Mercury Nashville’s Sugarland (#42-34, +20%).

Also back in the Top 50 are Disney’s Tron: Legacy soundtrack (#30) and Universal Republic’s Florence & the Machine (#48).

Next week, look for RCA/RMG’s Foo Fighters to debut at #1, with Rounder’s Alison Krauss and Union Station, Disney’s Lemonade Mouth soundtrack, Concord/Hear Music’s Paul Simon, Lava/Universal Republic’s Jessie J, Nonesuch’s kd lang and Interscope’s TV on the Radio also set to bow on the sales tally.
