COMING TO A BOYLE

If it’s the holiday season, we expect to see a jolly, round-faced icon who can hit the high notes.

No, we don’t mean Old Saint Nick, or Hanukkah Harry, for that matter, but Susan Boyle, the Scottish songstress who comes bearing her own gift in The Gift, her second chart-topping Columbia album in a row, which debuts at #1 on this week’s HITS tally, with a total of 321k. I Dreamed a Little Dream nabbed more than twice that, 701k, when it came out a year ago, Nov. 23.

That was enough to dethrone young Taylor Swift from her two weeks atop the standings, as the Big Machine release, Speak Up, falls a spot to #2, with a still-healthy 209k, for a three-week total of 1.575m.

Universal Motown rap star Kid Cudi, a strong contender for a Best New Artist Grammy nom, is next, debuting at #3 with Man on the Moon 2: Legend of Mr. Rager and an impressive 176k in sales.

Capitol/EMI’s Now 36 (#4) and Island/IDJ’s Bon Jovi Greatest Hits compilation (#5) also debut in the Top 5.

Broken Bow country star Jason Aldean’s My Kinda Party, distributed through Bob Morelli’s RED, goes #2-6, adding another 80k to its total, followed by Reba McEntire’s Valory effort, All the Women I Am, bowing at #7.

Mercury Nashville’s Sugarland (#8), Cash Money/Universal Motown’s Lil Wayne (#9) and Shady/Aftermath/Interscope’s Eminem (#10) round out the Top 10, giving Lucian Grainge’s UMG seven of those entries, two of them from Sylvia Rhone’s Universal Motown.

Other chart newcomers include New Elektra’s Cee Lo Green (#11), AB/EMI’s Alter Bridge (#18), Solidstate’s Underoath (#24), Reprise’s Blake Shelton (#26), Capitol/EMI’s Now That’s What I Call Xmas Vol. 4 (#35), Get Money Gang’s Twista (#38), Columbia Nashville’s Loretta Lynn & Friends tribute album (#43) and Legacy’s Elvis Presley Viva Elvis (#46).

The nationally televised Country Music Awards boosted several titles, with Columbia Nashville winner Miranda Lambert leading the way, as Revolution climbs #40-15, +138%, as does Atlantic’s Zac Brown Band album You Get What You Give (#20, +29%).

This week’s big releases include Warner Bros.’ Josh Groban, Big Machine’s Rascal Flatts, Island/IDJ’s Rihanna, Atlantic’s Kid Rock, Columbia’s Jackie Evancho, Capitol Nashville’s Keith Urban, Universal Motown’s Nelly, 19/RCA’s Lee DeWyze and Victory's A Day to Remember, which is already exploding in digital sales at iTunes.
