SACKHEIM TO QB IDJ PROMO

Bartels Rewards Highly Regarded Exec and Loyal Cal Bear
As we told you yesterday in Rumor Mill, Rick Sackheim has been upped to Executive Vice President Promotion for Island Def Jam. The announcement was made this morning by President/COO Steve Bartels, to whom Rick will report. In his new role, the veteran promo exec will oversee the Mainstream Top 40, Rock, Alternative, Rhythmic/Crossover and Adult formats. He’d served as SVP Promotion at IDJ since November 2005.

Said Bartels: “Rick is one of the most seasoned professionals working in today’s ever-changing radio promotion field. His diverse background in the various formats of radio that he has been closely associated with over the years, his team building and leadership skills, along with his forward-thinking perspective in helping artist campaigns realize, are the perfect combination of strengths for leading the team at IDJ in the future. He has earned the trust and respect of both his staff and his industry peers. We look forward to continued success and accomplishments from Rick while he figures out that his love of surfing actually can work in both oceans! And no, the schlubs at HITS didn’t write that line for me.”

Commented Sackheim: “I am so excited to take on new challenges. I’m thrilled to be working with some of today’s most accomplished artists and an amazing staff. And I am especially grateful to continue working with an incredible leader, Steve Bartels. I just hope those idiots at HITS don’t doctor my quote with that old line about me looking for Chris Blackwell’s stash. Besides, I smoked that years ago.”

Sackheim began his career in 1991 with a four-year stint on the national promo staff of Scotti Brothers Records, followed by a year on the at Private Music. In 1998, after a year as at as VP Promotion at 911 Entertainment, Sackheim moved to Restless Records in L.A., where he held positions of increasing responsibility, rising to VP Promotion. He went to Arista as Sr. Director Rhythm/Crossover Promotion in 2001, and was later named VP Rhythm/Crossover Promotion. In 2004, he joined Jive, where he held the same title, prior to his arrival at IDJ the following year.

Rick graduated from the Cal Berkeley with a BS in political science, and he's been BS-ing with the best of them ever since.
