JOHNSON’S MAGIC

Taio Cruz and Clay Aiken Bow in the Top 15, as Johnson Hangs Ten at the Top of the Chart
Never mind the oil spills—Jack Johnson brings the cool, clear ocean water this week.

The surfer folk-rock singer-songwriter debuts at #1 with To the Sea, his new Brushfire/ Universal Republic album, selling 250k in the fifth best bow of the year, trailing only Sade, Lady Antebellum, Usher and Justin Bieber.

That's more than enough to top Bieber’s Island/IDJ album, My World 2.0, which moves from #3 last week to #2, with 54k.

With the finale airing this week, Columbia’s Glee: The Music, Vol. 3 Showstoppers, last week’s chart-topper, remains at #3, adding another 45k to its total, with yet another volume coming out this Tuesday, and set to debut on the Top 50.

Capitol Nashville/EMI’s Lady Antebellum continues at #4 as the year’s best-selling album to date, with LaFace/JLG’s Usher rounding out the Top 5.

Interscope’s Lady Gaga survives her Larry King cross-examination to maintain the #6 slot, up 6% from last week, while Hear Music/Concord’s Carole King & James Taylor Live at the Troubadour CD/DVD is also up 6%, at #7.

The Top 10’s only other newcomer is Mercury/IDJ Brit R&B/pop-soul star Taio Cruz’s Rokstarr at #8, with Universal Republic’s heavy metal Wiccan vets Godsmack (#9) and Kemosabe/RCA/RMG’s Ke$ha regenerating at #10, up 5%.

In all, Doug MorrisUMG has the top two titles and five of the Top 10.

Other Top 50 debuts are registered by Decca’s Clay Aiken (#12) and Wind-up emo vets Hawthorne Heights (#48), with re-entries from Columbia’s Broken Bells (#33, thanks to a $7.99 iTunes special), Universal Motown’s Erykah Badu (#37) and Atlantic’s Janelle Monae (#45).

Atlantic’s Zac Brown Band leads the week’s gainers, with the Foundation album moving #19-14, +7%.

Hitting stores this week are RCA/RMG’s Christina Aguilera, Atlantic’s Twilight Saga: Eclipse and Columbia’s latest Glee soundtrack, Virgin’s Saving Abel, Valory’s Jewel, Universal Republic’s Lil Jon and Atlantic’s Plies.
