JANUARY COMES IN LIKE A LAMB

Adele Again, as Veteran Christian David Crowder Band, Snow Patrol Top Debuts
It’s that time again, the lull between the end of the holidays and the start of Grammy season.

With Tim McGraw the next big release on Jan 24, Adele will hold serve next week, her 16th at #1 and 46th on the chart.

Be thankful for small favors. Last year at this time, Taylor Swift set a new low for a #1 album with a total of 52k, the first in a string of record lows during the month.

Waco, TX-based sixsteprecords/Sparrow/EMI “six-piece modern worship group” David Crowder Band will score the week's top debut and very likely be the #2 album with Give Us Rest (A Requiem Mass in C [The Happiest of All Keys]),” which is slated to do between 40-45k.

We kid you not. The band’s been around since the late ‘90s and this is their 11th album in that time. Crowder started the group while attending Baylor University when he realized over half the students at the Christian college weren’t attending church. He became the Pastor of worship for a church he started at the school, and began writing songs to incorporate into the service. The band’s album artwork contains hidden references to their website promoting their sect…What’s next? Backwards-masked messages to Our Lord on the digital files?

Grammy-winning, Glasgow-based Irish-Scottish multi-platinum group Snow Patrol make their Island/IDJ debut with Fallen Empires, the band’s sixth studio album, which is looking in the 27-30k range. The disc features collaborations with Queens of the Stone Age guitarist Troy van Leeuwen, R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe and promising new L.A., singer/songwriter Lissie. The band just performed on Letterman last Monday.

Veteran RCA Dirty South rapper Yo Gotti, by way of Memphis, releases Live from the Kitchen, his first major label release after putting out four independent albums and a slew of mixtapes since 2000. Based on one-day sales from those retailers who haven’t paved paradise and put up a parking lot, it looks to be on target for between 12-15k in its first week. Several singles have been released over the past few years, including “Single,” while the next track, “All About Me,” features Drake.

Album sales were down 25% vs. last week, up 7% vs. same week last year and up 7% year to date.

Track sales were down 29% vs. last week, up 10% vs. same week last year and up 10% year to date.

TEA (Track Equivalent Album) sales were down 27% vs. last week, up 8% vs. same week last year and up 8% year to date.
