MTV ANNOUNCES NOMS FOR VMA VIDEO OF THE YEAR

MC Russell Brand Breaks the News, Promises to Tweet More Details
MTV has revealed the nominees for Video of the Year at the 2009 Video Music Awards. The nods go to Britney Spears' "Womanizer," Beyoncé's "Single Ladies," Eminem's "We Made You," Lady Gaga's "Poker Face" and Kanye West's "Love Lockdown."

Britney took home Video of the Year at last year's VMAs with "Piece of Me," and Eminem has already won the award twice (in 2000 for "The Real Slim Shady" and again in 2002 for "Without Me"). Beyoncé, has won six Moonmen as a solo artist, Kanye has snagged two and rookie Gaga is up for her first.

Beyonce and Lady Gaga tied for the most noms, with nine apiece, followed by Spears with seven, Kanye West, Eminem and Coldplay four each, while Green Day grabs three and Jay-Z two.

The nominees were announced in a video message taped by VMA host Russell Brand.

"Obviously, all these people are worthy nominees, but I realize that Britney perhaps wrote 'Womanizer' about me, so I'd like that to win," he quipped, uncharacteristically showing favoritism.

Brand has promised to reveal more VMA news throughout the day on his Twitter account, RustyRockets.

The winners are determined by fans, who vote for their faves at VMA.MTV.com.

The 2009 MTV Video Music Awards will take place Sept. 13 at 9 p.m. ET live from N.Y.'s Radio City Music Hall.
