The Streetlab EP is available on a USB wristband, which is total genius!

WHEELS 2.0—MAN DOWN!

This Week, Erica Takes a Solo Drive in Search of the Stars of Tomorrow
Jesse decided that the heat of Los Angeles just wasn’t enough to keep him here, so he escaped to Arizona for the birth of his niece, which could not have come at a better time. I, on the other hand, am looking forward to cooler climes as I make my way to CMJ next week. Are you gonna be there? If you’ve got a band recommendation for us (or a great new restaurant), give a shout at [email protected]. Keep me close to the crackberry—I’m hoping the waves will keep me warm! And now for this week’s picks to click…

Streetlab is an ultra-hip, electronica-leaning coed band from New York City. Co-leaders Coz Lamorg and Ryan Leary first hooked up in 2001, initially remixing classic rock tracks from the likes of Led Zeppelin and the Rolling Stones, and going on to create remixes for Crystal Castles, Beastie Boys, Thieves Likes US and many more. They just released their first original single with RCRD LBL/Downtown Records; download it for free at http://rcrdlbl.com/artists/Streetlab/music. Additionally, the Streetlab EP is available now on a bunch of different sites, but also on a USB wristband, which we think is total genius! The band will be playing a bunch of shows around the New York area in the next couple weeks, including a couple shows at CMJ. The buzz continues to grow, and we definitely think this is a group you should check out. Peep their music here at www.streetlab.net and www.myspace.com/streetlab.

The Dark Romantics: During the 19th century, the term “dark romantics” was associated with artful writers like Edgar Allan Poe and Emily Dickinson, but in this century it refers to an indie-rock band formed by Eric Collins and Dean Paul. Since hitting the scene with their debut in 2006, the Lakeland, FL-based band has made inroads across the country, while placing songs on network and cable TV and sharing stages with the likes of The Mooney Suzuki and Murder by Death. Their latest album, Heartbreaker, was released in September; you can tune in at www.thedarkromantics.com.

Telescope: Hailing from the great state of Arizona, this coed group is distinguished by seductive vocals and evocative lyrics; it’s not surprising that they’re drawing comparisons to the likes of Snow Patrol and The Fray. When asked about their motivation for making great music, they respond that “Music is about being inspired and inspiring others.” Telescope’s songs can be heard and downloaded on their website; give them a listen and let us know if you’ve been inspired. Hey Jesse, did you get a chance to see them play when you were in AZ this week? I reckon you should. Get tour dates, downloads and everything Telescope at www.telescopemusic.com.
