Bocelli Has Croon to Move at #2 and Flyleaf Bows at #9, as CMAs Boost Country Sales
Move over Bruce Springsteen and Tony Soprano. New Jersey has some new heroes to worship.

Bon Jovi’s new Island/IDJ album The Circle gets the square this week, as the arena-rock idols land at #1 on the HITS Top 50 Album chart, with 166k in sales.

That's enough to turn back Decca tenor Andrea Bocelli’s My Christmas album at #2, with 138k in sales, and a good chance to be this year’s Josh Groban in terms of holiday retail activity. Now, if he dyes his beard white and dons some red togs, he could pass for good ol’ St. Nick himself.

19/Arista Nashville country superstar Carrie Underwood’s Play On, last week’s chart-topper, dips to #3 with a still potent 125k, just ahead of Epic’s Michael Jackson This Is It companion piece at #4 and Big Machine’s CMA winner Taylor Swift, who uses the TV exposure and multiple awards to crash the Top 5, up 36%, with 91k.

A&M/Octone’s Flyleaf is the other Top 10 debut, entering the chart at #9, while Sony Music’s Now 32 (#6), Reprise’s Michael Buble (#7), Columbia’s Glee soundtrack (#8) and Chop Shop/Atlantic’s Twilight Saga: New Moon (#10) round out the Top 10. Expect the soundtrack to soar next week with the film opening this Friday.

This week’s new chart entries include Atlantic’s Switchfoot (#17), DGC/Interscope’s Dashboard Confessional (#20), Jive/JLG’s Britney Spoears Singles Collection (#26), Interscope DC go-go hip-hop act Wale (#27), A&M/Octone’s Hollywood Undead deluxe edition (#33), Mercury Nashville’s Sugarland (#36) and Atlantic’s Jason Mraz Beautiful Mess Live (#42).

Among the re-entries are Provident/Reunion Christian group Casting Crowns (#16), Capitol Nashville’s Darius Rucker (#30), Reprise’s Josh Groban Noel album (#32), Big Machine’s Taylor Swift debut (#39), Epic’s Michael Jackson Thriller (#46) and Atlantic’s Trey Songz (#47).

The CMA telecast helped several titles to triple-digit increases, led by Taylor Swift’s Holiday Collection (#25-13, +157%) and Capitol Nashville’s Lady Antebellum (#25-12, +134%). Other major country gainers include Atlantic’s Zac Brown Band (#23-14, +55%), Columbia Nashville’s Miranda Lambert (#34, +27%) and Broken Bow’s Jason Aldean (#35, +18%). Interscope’s Lady Gaga (#21, +28%) and Black Eyed Peas (#23, +13%) also show impressive week-to-week moves.

Next week, look for Shady/Aftermath/Interscope’s 50 Cent, Blue Note’s Norah Jones and Columbia’s John Mayer battle it out for the top, with Island/IDJ’s Justin Bieber, 19/Jive/JLG’s Kris Allen, J/RMG’s Leona Lewis, Interscope’s OneRepublic and Hear Music/Concord Music Group’s Paul McCartney live at Citi Field DVD/CD.
