The week’s other big story is Decca’s Mamma Mia! soundtrack, which surges 81% to #3 with 165k in sales.

MILEY BREAKS OUT

Disney Superstar Tops Chart, Sugarland Debuts #2, Mamma Mia Soars to #3, NIN Bows at #12
By any other name, Miley Cyrus is a superstar.

The Hollywood Records ingénue, the artist formerly known as Hannah Montana, hits the #1 spot on this week’s HITS Album Sales chart with 366k.

That was enough to turn back the challenge from Mercury Nashville duo Sugarland, which finishes at #2 with its deluxe fan edition of the new album, Love on the Inside, good for 308k in sales.

With the regular edition hitting the streets on Tuesday, the album is hoping for a robust second week.

The week’s other big story is Decca’s Mamma Mia! soundtrack, which surges 81% to #3 with 165k in sales.

Atlantic’s Kid Rock is also riding the coattails of his hot weather smash, “All Summer Long,” with a 31% rise at #4.

Cash Money/Universal Motown’s Lil Wayne is next at #5, followed by Capitol’s Coldplay (#6), Disney’s Camp Rock (#7), last week’s chart-topper, Def Jam’s Nas (#8), Capitol’s Now 28 (#9) and Big Machine’s Taylor Swift Wal-Mart exclusive rounding out the Top 10.

The physical release of Trent Reznor’s previously free Nine Inch Nails download album, The Slip, is the next leading chart newcomer at #12, along with Silent Majority’s Candlebox (#25) and Epic’s Noel Gourdin (#32). Universal Republic’s Colbie Caillat returns to the Top 50 at #47.

Hollywood’s Jonas Brothers lead the week’s gainers, moving #24-14, +38%. Also showing strong upward mobility are UMe/Show Dog’s Toby Keith (#38-29, +16%), Sugarland’s second Mercury Nashville album, Enjoy the Ride (#45-31, +13%), Brushfire/Universal Republic’s Jack Johnson (#35-30, +9%), Columbia’s Metro Station (#46-38, +4%), Universal Republic’s Three Doors Down (#27-22, +3%) and Universal Republic’s Flobots (#50-42, +3%).

Looking to crack next week’s Top 50 are new releases from Interscope’s Scars on Broadway, the System of a Down spinoff featuring lead guitarist Daron Malakian and Razor & Tie’s perennial Kidz Bop 14.
