His long-time home, CBS rock station WXRK—better known as KROCK—will flip on Wednesday 5 p.m. (ET) to become 92.3 NOW-FM.
A similar move was made in L.A., where talk station KLSX 97.1 Talk became 97.1 AMP last month.
As part of the format change, morning show hosts Opie & Anthony are now out.
“It’s official,” read the duo’s Twitter page. “KROCK has just informed us that our services are no longer needed. This is really bad for our show… PERIOD!”
The duo were #2 with males 18-49 and #3 makes 25-54.
Core artists on 92.3 NOW will include Kanye West, Beyonce, Pink, Flo Rida, Akon, Katy Perry and Justin Timberlake when the “experiential” CBS station debuts on-air, online (www.923now.com), and on a variety of mobile devices.
"For the first time in nearly 30 years, New York now has a choice for hit music," said CBS Radio VP/Contemporarly Hit Radio Dom Theodore, who will direct the programming after coming over from Clear Channel. "With 92.3 NOW FM, we’re breaking the mold of the traditional radio station and creating a pure multi-media companion for today’s music fans."
