WHEELS 2.0: STILL LOST IN AMERICA

At Least They’re Not in an RV Singing Along to “Born to Be Wild”

Welcome to a special “on the road” edition of your least favorite weekly update from your lovable losers. As you may or may not know, we have been in Vegas since Tuesday for the Amplify! Music Festival. Coming from a company that has no cred, we have literally been whoring ourselves out to the industry’s finest. Even though we obviously aren’t that cool, we’ve still managed to rub elbows with some heavy hitters. Last night we had the privilege to check out rock god Chris Cornell as well as meeting up with pro heavy Myles Lewis from BMI and publishing guru Brad Aarons from Liberal Arts. Also, we were fortunate enough to be graced by veteran music manager/A&R god Ron Laffitte.

Today we sacrificed sleep to dine in style at the Hugh Hefner Suite at The Palms Hotel. Thanks to George Maloof for extending this invite and giving us a tour of Pearl, their year-old kick-ass venue and their state-of-the-art recording studio. George also offered comp seats for Steely Dan, playing Friday night at Pearl. Not to date them, but our parents are totally jealous, and for once we don’t feel like such losers.

As for the panels, while they weren’t especially informative, they were dotted with some big guns who kept the audience entertained. Leading the way was Danny Wimmer from Atlantic, who put in a double panel appearance and radiated a friendly vibe throughout. Also featured today were some big-time managers, including Rob McDermott and Chris Allen, as well as the attorney who keeps ’em all in line: Gary Gilbert.

We can now breathe a sigh of relief, as we have several hours to unwind and scheme up our next plan of action before we whip out our running man and get down with Vanilla Ice. As a side note, one local band that’s buzzin’ out here is Searchlight; we suggest you check them out.

Stay tuned for one final update, coming tomorrow. Hit us up at [email protected]

BAND UPDATES
Some big news on a couple acts we’ve been following…

These Green Eyes:
Signed to Ben Goldman’s label, this band has been generating a lot of buzz and momentum. They were chosen as a PUREVOLUME “Pure Pick,” which puts them on the homepage for about a week. Thanks to the exposure, they’re now dominating the site’s charts. They also just finished shooting a video, and there will definitely be a lot more to come. Keep your eyes on this one, and watch it as it explodes. (www.myspace.com/thesegreeneyes)
