EMMY SHOWS SHE HAS GOOD TASTE

Chances Are Your Favorite Shows Snagged Multiple Nominations, as the TV Biz Shows It Knows What’s Good in Its Own Medium
The Emmy nominations were announced this morning, and Mad Men is the front-running drama with 16 noms, while 30 Rock, last year’s comedy winner, leads the entire pack with 22.

The other shows up for Outstanding Comedy are Entourage, Flight of the Conchords, How I Met Your Mother, The Office, 30 Rock, Weeds and, in a precedent-setter, animated series The Family Guy. Nope, The Simpsons was never nominated in the primary comedy category.

Joining Don Draper and his three-martini lunch companions in the Outstanding Drama field are Big Love, Breaking Bad, Damages, Dexter, House and Lost.

Grey Gardens, starring Drew Barrymore in a breakout performance, leads the TV Movie noms with 17, trailed by the Winston Churchill biopic Into the Storm, with 14.

For Outstanding Comedy, Musical or Variety Series, the nominations are The Colbert Report, The Daily Show With Jon Stewart, Late Show With David Letterman, Real Time With Bill Maher and the resurgent Saturday Night Live. Jay Leno, in his last year in late night before moving over to prime-time next fall, is conspiciuous by his absence.

CBS, which has a lock on the Grammys, will air the Emmys this year. The show will be telecast Sept. 20 from the Nokia Theatre, with Neil Patrick Harris, who hosted this year’s Tony Awards, handling the emcee chores.
