RIGHT, SAID FRED

Music Attorney Fred Goldring Honored With Appointment From Obama
Well-liked and universally respected music barrister Fred Goldring got quite an honor on Feb. 5 when President Obama announced that he was one of six individuals who’ll be appointed to the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities.

The news was greeted with unequivocal enthusiasm by all those who know Goldring, with one notable exception. Said HITS Editor in Chief Lenny Beer, “Fred's friend Ken Hertz cheats at golf and talks during my backswing. Anybody who's a friend of Ken is no friend of mine.”

The other appointees are visual artists Chuck Close and Ken Solomon, BET co-founder Sheila Johnson, businesswoman/philanthropist Pamela Joyner and fiction writer Jhumpa Lahiri.

Said the Prez in making the announcement: “I am proud that these distinguished individuals will serve in my Administration. The arts and the humanities enhance the vibrancy of our society, inspire us and strengthen our democracy. I look forward to working with them in the weeks and months ahead.”

The announcement was accompanied by thumbnail bios on each of the appointees. The one on Goldring noted that he “co-founded the prominent California-based entertainment law firm Goldring, Hertz and Lichtenstein, which represents numerous global superstar recording and performing artists, and is also co-founder of entertainment strategic consultancy, MemBrain, which works with Fortune 500 companies and new media and technology enterprises regarding entertainment marketing strategy. Mr. Goldring is also the former Chairman of the Board of Directors of Rock the Vote, and has been the co-recipient of an Emmy Award, a Clio Award, a Global Media Award and an NAACP Image Award.”

Goldring will be sworn-in next Wednesday (2/24) in the Supreme Court chambers by Justice Stephen Breyer.
