Lipman Strikes While the Iron Is Hot, Greenlighting Klaiman’s Promo Buildup
They’re out of “Rehab” and ready to rock.

Universal Republic Records is bolstering its promotion team by promoting several existing staffers and hiring additional executives, label President Monte Lipman announced today. The revamped department, headed up by SVP Promotion and Artist Development Joel Klaiman, is already reaping rewards, with breakthrough artists like Amy Winehouse and Shop Boyz, and ongoing success with heartland rock band Hinder.

Said Lipman: “The restructuring of our executive, home and field offices has strengthened our strategic mission and secured even greater opportunities for our artists. I applaud Joel Klaiman and the entire staff for their exemplary performance throughout this transition, and look forward to future successes with this remarkable team.”

Commented Klaiman: “With our realignment completed, our entire department is focused on garnering maximum exposure for our artists. Each member of our staff will now play a critical role in extending the impact of our great roster at radio, video and online.”

Key promotion staffers include VP Promotion and Sports Marketing David Nathan, VP Crossover Promotion Gary Spangler and VP Rock Promotion Dave Downey. Joining the staff are new hired Alisa Applegate, who’s appointed Associate Director of Crossover Promotion, and Risa Matsuki, who’s named Director of Triple A Promotion.

Additionally, the Top 40 staff has been realigned, with Mike Nazarro and Howie Pivar getting director titles in N.Y. and L.A., respectively, while Toby Russell is promoted from Southeast Regional Director/Head of Triple A to Director of Top 40, based in Atlanta. Ray Vaughn adds Director Top 40 duties to his Southwest Regional Director promotion title.

On the regional director level, there are five appointees, Kathy Marchetti for the Northeast, Dan Fullick for the Midwest, Tim Wallen for the Northwest, Heather Kitson for the Mid-Atlantic and Marilyn Lecointre for the Southeast.

The entire promotion department staff reports to Klaiman.

Along with the aforementioned hit projects, Colbie Callat’s “Bubbly” is the fastest debut single to crack the Top 10 of the Triple A format this year.
