SANDERS NEW MARKETING
HEAD AT SONY BMG

Veteran Record Exec Will Be Global Topper
The man is to global marketing what his namesake Colonel is to fried chicken. And that's finger-lickin' good at his job.

Richard Sanders has been named head of Global Marketing for Sony BMG Music Entertainment by CEO Rolf Schmidt-Holtz, to whom he'll report while based in New York.

Said Schmidt-Holtz: "Richard's experience spans virtually every aspect of our business, ranging from management to artist development and head of a major label, and through the years he has earned a reputation as an innovative businessman, a highly effective leader, and a true entrepreneur. There is no question that his many talents and abilities have made him a major asset to the company, and I'm confident that this new, pivotal role will provide him with even greater opportunities to contribute to the creative growth in our territories around the world... that is, as soon as I figure out what he does."

As head of global marketing for the company, Sanders will work closely with all of the company's labels and divisions to create and implement fully integrated global marketing and release strategies for the company's artists and projects. He will also oversee the company's global marketing staff and collect frequent flier miles he'll trade in for magazine subscriptions.

Commented Sanders: "This is a fantastic new challenge. From Asia to Europe, Latin America, the U.S. and Canada, Sony BMG's current artist rosters include an extraordinary group of both superstar and emerging talent, and this post will give me the opportunity to contribute directly to their development, and to the growth of the company overall. I thank Rolf for this great opportunity, and I look forward to working with our labels and divisions throughout the world, as well as with the entire global marketing team, as we develop global marketing strategies that will bring our artists real and lasting success." (Editor's translation: Does this mean I still get an invite to Clive's pre-Grammy party?")

Sanders was most recently EVP/GM for RCA Records since 2001, helping to build and enhance the careers of such artists as The Dave Matthews Band, Avril Lavigne, Christina Aguilera, Foo Fighters, The Strokes and Kelly Clarkson, as well as the American Idol franchise.

Sanders' roots in the music business include selling T-shirts on the road for Aerosmith and Ted Nugent, and subsequently worked in tour accounting and road management. After leaving the road he founded Loud and Proud Management and his own publishing company, Shohola Music. He will now go back to selling T-shirts on the road, this time for Kelly Clarkson and Clay Aiken.

He joined Arista Records in 1991 as the head of Artist Development. overseeing the recording careers of Sarah McLachlan and Annie Lennox, as well as developing artists OutKast and TLC into superstar acts.

Sanders left Arista to work with Richard Branson in founding V2 Records in 1996, where he served as President of the label's North American operations.
