Sparks and Urban Bow in Top 10, While HSM 2, Disney Titles Soar
Josh Groban and Oprah make a pretty impressive duo for the holidays.

Thanks to his performance on last week’s daytime talk show, Groban’s seasonal Reprise album Noel goes straight to the top of the HITS chart, with a total of 405k, a 77% gain.

That was enough for it to leap over J Records diva Alicia KeysAs I Am, which nevertheless climbs past 1 million copies sold so far to land at #2 with 336k.

The debut album from 19/Jive/ZLG’s American Idol winner Jordin Sparks (#9) and Capitol Nashville’s Keith Urban Greatest Hits (#10) are the only Top 10 newcomers.

EMI’s Now 26 (#3), the exclusive Wal-Mart sale of The Eagles (#4) and Disney’s revitalized High School Musical 2 soundtrack, up #13-5 thanks to a Black Friday-inspired 141% rise in sales, dominate the rest of the Top 5.

Pearl RecordsGarth Brooks (#6), Arista Nashville’s Carrie Underwood (#7) and Jive/ZLG’s Chris Brown (#8) round out the leader board.

Other new entries include INO/Columbia Christian band Mercy Me (#15), Interscope’s Timbaland proteges OneRepublic (#16), Def Jam/IDJ’s Freeway (#42) and Disney’s Enchanted soundtrack (#44).

Re-entries include Beyonce’s Columbia album B’Day (#19), spurred by Wal-Mart’s aggressive $5 pricing and the release of her DVD The Beyonce Experience Live, which was merchandised side-by-side by the retailer.

New Line’s Hairspray soundtrack also returns to the charts (#37), thanks to the release of the DVD and a deluxe edition.


Leading gainers include A&M/Interscope’s Fergie (#39-26, +113%, thanks to her AMA perf), Disney’s Hannah Montana (#47-30, +107%), RCA/RMG’s AMA winner Daughtry (#48-38, +93%), Disney’s High School Musical (#44-35, +87%), Hollywood’s Jonas Brothers (#30-22, +84%) and BNA/SBMG Nashville’s Kenny Chesney (#43-36, +78%).

Other big winners include Universal Republic’s Colbie Caillat (#17, +45%), Show Dog/Universal Nashville’s Toby Keith (#43, +45%) and Big Machine’s Taylor Swift (#14, +39%).
