IVANA: i think i'm seeing buddy later at a party for hits employees, past and present, that I wasn't invited to
LENNY: i wasn’t invited either
IVANA: neither was todd. whattup with that?
LENNY: well, it is easy to hate you and todd, as for me i only started a business that helped people have jobs and raise families, so why should i be invited?

THE IVANA & LENNY SHOW: DAUGHTRY OR ARCADE FIRE?

Our Resident Geniuses Examine the Present and Future of Alternative Radio Along with Some Gazing Into the Crystal Ball

LENNY: i am fascinated with american idol loser daughtry and his impact on all formats, especially now that alternative is coming in
IVANA: and active and pop
LENNY: and hot ac
IVANA: wow. mainstream rock is big again—look at the success of nickelback and hinder
LENNY: yes, people are comparing him to nickelback and expecting multiple hits
IVANA: hooray? personally, i'm more interested in new music by the shins and lily allen
LENNY: i've heard the whole album on lily and am mucho impressed, she's a new artist to watch next year.... shins i do not have yet
IVANA: if you're nice i'll get you a copy
LENNY: nice, whattup wit dat?
IVANA: i'm waiting on new arcade fire music as well, since we are launching a new single on january 8
LENNY: have you heard the entire album yet?
IVANA: no, just 5 songs. needless to say, it's genius
LENNY: i'll bet, they are a great band
IVANA: do you believe indie labels can compete with the majors in this climate?
LENNY: absolutely, i think they can and will thrive. they have the ability to have patience. patience is everything now
IVANA: i agree, since radio is bailing early on songs that could be smashes because the label has to move on to its next priority
LENNY: sad but true. arcade fire and the shins will be hot in the new year, along with lily.... who else should we look out for?
IVANA: on the rock side, obviously sparta will continue to gain momentum at active and modern rock, as will jive's bullet for my valentine, the ataris on sanctuary and saosin on capitol
LENNY: that's a hot new band for sure. saosin will win if capitol stays at the table.... and buddy deal joining the cause should def help

IVANA: good point. since this is our last "real" column 'cept for our year-end wrap-up, who should we hail?
LENNY: we must hail the job done by bill carroll
IVANA: i KNEW you'd say that. joey scoleri is doing great as well
LENNY: joey is on fire and is “most improved” player of the year
IVANA: i think our rookies, mike depippa, jj grossman and buddy deal will make a big showing
LENNY: agreed, let's keep our eyes on them
IVANA: and mark fischer gets this year's “rookie of the year,” although he has eons of experience and success under his belt
LENNY: fischer is a seasoned promo pro that has made the move to a label seamless
IVANA: we lost two heavyweights--howie miura and ted volk
LENNY: i think there are great things in store for ted
IVANA: and howie too, when he chooses to return
LENNY: howie will return when he is ready
IVANA: it's interesting that astralwerks is EXPANDING its radio team when majors are shrinking theirs
LENNY: astralwerks has great bands
IVANA: who knows who will get the pd gig at 91x? trib reeb is interim pd for now. there's a gig in cincy that needs filling
LENNY: trip is awesome, and a solid golfer
IVANA: dave rossi just left wavf. his former station, wrax, switched to sports talk. it's very volatile at this format! like they say, it's hard to tell the players without a scorecard. but nan fisher and i are still plugging away--24 years of modern rock promotion! we're the “dowager empresses” of the format
LENNY: congrats, survival is key these days
IVANA: our own little version of grey gardens
LENNY: oy
IVANA: in a word, this year SUCKED
LENNY: agreed. but on into the future we go. enough of this year, say goodnight and good luck
IVANA: goodnight, gracie
LENNY: and so it ends.......
IVANA: and there we are… thanks for keeping me employed
LENNY: i’ve been meaning to talk to you about that…
