Can the Newly Depleted Bunny Get the Job Done on an International Scale?
By Rodel Delfin

Lots of chatter surrounding those Warner Music Group layoffs. The company confirmed that approximately 400 staffers worldwide will be let go, and we hear half will occur domestically and the other half will affect the international divisions. One report from across the pond is that WMG labels outside of the U.S. have already been hit hard with staff layoffs, and it brings into question WMG’s future effectiveness in working projects worldwide. Meanwhile, several U.S. managers who have WMG-signed star artists have been vocal to Edgar and Lyor about keeping their key international execs in place. One WMG executive who reportedly has managers on his side is well-respected, industry vet Korda Marshall, who currently serves as Managing Director for Warner Bros Records U.K. The restructuring is expected to be gradual rather than going down in one massive staff reduction. Stay tuned… NEWS TO USE: Two members of Evanescence have reportedly parted ways with the band, while the group takes a short break after returning from South Africa. Sources share that lead singer Amy Lee fired guitarist John LeCompt, and drummer Rocky Gray quit soon afterward. The two players wasted no time forming a new band called Machina with former Future Leaders of the World vocalist Phil Taylor. The group has tentatively set up industry showcases for next Friday, May 18, at S.I.R. in New York. Contact manager Chris Long (Crossfade) or barristers Tim Mandelbaum and Jeremy Rosen for details… BMI’s Pick of the Month is an export from across the pond called Back Door Slam. The group is fronted by 19-year old guitar prodigy Davy Knowles, and the the tracks we’ve heard are dirty, bluesy classic rock. See Buzz/Gigs… The heat continues to build on New York-based rock trio Earl Greyhound. After a heavy management derby, the act has signed on with East Coast-based manager Eddie Applebaum, who also handles Morningwood. Earl Greyhound’s debut LP, Soft Target, on indie Some Records, has garnered rave reviews from Spin, New Yorker and Rolling Stone, and their SXSW shows were packed with fans and label A&R types. The group will be headlining the Bowery Ballroom on Thursday (6/14), so expect maximum weaseltude if the band is still available by then.
