GET READY FOR SUPER TUESDAY

Jay-Z, Beatles, Snoop Dogg, Tupac Among the Releases Set for Nov. 21
Super Tuesday Nov. 21 is not a presidential primary, an election or the date of the New York Knicks’ second victory of the NBA season.

It’s Q4’s biggest release date, with a slew of superstar acts coming out that day.

Jay-Z and The Beatles haven’t been together since Danger Mouse mashed them up for his celebrated Grey Album, but the icons of rap and rock, respectively, will go head-to-head when their albums hit retail that day.

Jay-Z’s Def Jam/IDJ album Kingdom Come streets that day on the heels of one of the industry’s most massive marketing campaigns to date, and the real question is if it can top the year’s previous one-week champ, Lyric Street’s Rascal Flatts, which bowed back in April with 714k in sales.

The Beatles’ Apple/Capitol/EMI LOVE album, the soundtrack to the Cirque de Soleil show in Las Vegas, should be a huge holiday album, with experts looking for the CD to bow with between 300-400k in first-week sales.

A pair of rappers, one alive and kicking, the other dead for a decade, are up next. Tupac’s Amaru/Interscope release Pac’s Life, his 11th posthumous album since his death in 1996 at age 25, is further testament to the rapper’s prolific nature. All of the recordings on the album, save one verse, have never been heard before, with guests such as Ludacris, Snoop Dogg, Keyshia Cole, T.I., Ashanti, Young Buck, Lil Scrappy, Carl Thomas, Outlawz and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, among others. Guestimates for first-week sales are in the 250-300k range.

Speaking of Snoop, his new Doggystyle/Geffen album The Blue Carpet Treatment features three tracks from the Dogg man and old cohort Dr. Dre. The first single, “That’s That,” features R. Kelly. According to our crack retail experts, the album should battle Tupac with between 250-300k in first-week sales.

Interscope rockers U2’s U218 Singles is a combination CD/DVD hits compilation, with two new tracks, including “The Saints are Coming,” their collaboration with Green Day and “Window in the Skies.” Early estimates see the album doing between 150-200k. RCA American Idol Daughtry’s self-titled debut could reach the 200k mark, while TVT’s Dirty South hip-hop stars Ying-Yang Twins are eyeing between 150-200k in first-week sales.

Finally, Il Divo’s Siempre, the third Columbia album from the Simon Cowell Euro-popera discoveries, could do up to 150k.
