YO NELLY! FURTADO EYES #1 SLOT NEXT WEEK

Tooth & Nail’s Underoath Looks To 100k Bow, Keane, Field Mob, Donell Jones, Madonna, Corinne Bailey Rae, Guster Debut

Her new album's flying off shelves like a bird.

Nelly Furtado’s Dreamworks/Interscope album is letting Loose a torrent of record buyers. Thanks to producer Timbaland and the smash hit “Promiscuous,” Furtado looks headed for a debut that could reach 200k, according to one-day reports from retailers around the country. That should still be enough for the #1 spot on next Tuesday’s album chart, not bad for the exotic songbird who made a huge impression with her Shakira-like performance of the song last month on Saturday Night Live.

Indie Tooth & Nail Christian metal band Underoath are showing some surprising strength as they look to crack six figures with the release of their new album, Define the Great Line, in regular and deluxe editions. The Florida group are veterans of the Warped and Taste of Chaos tours.

Interscope post-Coldplay Britpopsters Keane return with Under the Iron Sea, the follow-up to 2004’s Hopes and Fears, with first-day estimates pegging it between 70-75k, followed closely by Geffen’s Field Mob and their enigmatically titled Light Poles and Pine Trees, which could do as much as 60-65k based on first-day numbers. The Albany, GA group is an alum of LudacrisDisturbing tha Peace posse and has a rapidly rising hit single in “So What” featuring Ciara.

LaFace/ZLG R&B singer Donell Jones is up next, with Journey of a Gemini, earmarked for between 40-45k in its debut wek. A curiously unhyped Madonna live album on WB, I’m Going to Tell You a Secret, is next, with projected sales in the 40k range, while promising Capitol U.K. newcomer Corinne Bailey Rae’s acclaimed self-titled debut is in the 35k range, but could rise based on sales at Starbucks, making the rare move of carrying an album by a relative unknown. Finally, our second favorite Jewish rock band (after M.O.T.), Guster return to Reprise for their latest, Ganging Up on the Sun, which could do as much as 30k, give or take a few thousand.

In market trend news, sales were up 9% vs. last week, down 13% vs. same week last year and now down nearly 4% year-to-date. Now isn’t that as good as a kick in the balls?
