Reprise Crooner #1 in Second Week, as Retail Experiences a Mother of a Week
Michael Buble’s bubbling over. The Reprise Records crooner parlays all those Mother’s Day sales into a #1 debut on this week’s HITS Top 50, with a total of 143k in sales, for his album Call Me Irresponsible.

There’s no telling how many muthas bought the Interscope comeback album Strength & Loyalty from rap pioneers Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, but there were at least 116k of them, enough for the disc to bow at #2.

DTP/Def Jam/IDJ R&B star Bobby Valentino used the Special Occasion for a #3 bow and 90k in sales.

Columbia lefty diva Barbra Streisand was apparently high on many moms’ wish lists as she managed to debut at #7 with her two-CD Live in Concert 2006 album to the tune of almost 60k. James Brolin may never have to do another Amco spot as long as he lives.

Last week’s chart-topper, Def Jam/IDJ’s Ne-Yo, falls to #4, still enough to give label ruler L.A. Reid two of the top three this week.

Arista/RMG’s Avril Lavigne leads the rest of the holdovers at #5, followed by RCA/RMG’s Daughtry (#6), Arista/RMG’s Carrie Underwood (#8), SBMG Nashville’s Martina McBride (#9) and EMI’s Now 24 (#10), giving Sony BMG five of the Top 10 for the week.

Other newcomers include Atlantic Icelandic eccentric Bjork’s Volta (#14), Koch’s Diplomats (#22), Atlantic’s Yolanda Adams (#49) and RCA/RMG’s Black Rebel Motorcycle Club (#50).

It was a Happy Mother’s Day for another batch of mom-friendly artists, with Buble’s fellow Reprise artist Josh Groban leading the way, as his Awake album rises #49-32, a 63% jump.

McBride (+51%), Daughtry (+34%) and Underwood (32%) all experience major jumps, as did Blue Note’s Norah Jones (#40-24, +46%), LaFace/ZLG’s Pink (#44-33, +32%) and Aware/Columbia’s John Mayer (#48-44, +31%).

Next week, look for Linkin Park’s first new studio album for WB in four years, Minutes to Midnight, to top the chart. Also on tap, SBMG Nashville’s Gretchen Wilson, Blackground/Universal Motown’s Tank, Roadrunner’s Megadeth, Nonesuch’s Wilco and Geffen’s Rufus Wainwright.
