T.I. SMASHES PUMPKINS, INTERPOL, SPOON CRASH TOP 10

Capitol’s Interpol Bows at #4, Merge’s Spoon #10, Aly & AJ, Hairspray Soundtrack Also Debut
T.I. is once more on the T.I.P. as the Atlanta Dirty South rapper’s Grand Hustle/Atlantic album remains in first place on the HITS Top 50 sales chart, with a second-week total of 163k.

That was enough to beat back Smashing PumpkinsReprise comeback, Zeitgeist, which debuts at #2 with a total of 146k as the top newcomer.

Capitol Music Group’s erstwhile N.Y. indie-rock darlings Interpol have much to Admire for their #4 bow, logging in close to 70k in sales.

The other Top 10 debut comes from Merge’s Spoon, logging in with 44k for the critically acclaimed Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga, landing at #10. In other words, you get five Ga’s for the price of one.

The rest of the Top 10 features the following holdovers, including Walt Disney RecordsHannah Montana 2: Meet Miley, now #4, with 124k, followed by RCA/RMG’s Kelly Clarkson (#5), Island’s Bon Jovi (#6), WB’s Linkin Park (#7), A&M/Interscope’s Fergie (#8) and Universal Republic’s Amy Winehouse (#9).

Other Top 50 newcomers include Hollywood pop sister duo Aly & AJ (#13), New Line’s Hairspray soundtrack (#16), Epitaph’s punk standard bearers Bad Religion (#42) and WB’s Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix soundtrack (#45).

Leading the gainers is Roadrunner’s Nickelback, with a new deluxe special edition CD/DVD package of their All the Right Reasons album, which climbs 24-14, sporting a 53% increase in sales.

Other double-digit increases are registered by Hollywood’s Plain White T’s, riding the success of the hit single, “Hey, There Delilah,” to rise 12% at #31 and Interscope’s Timbaland (#36, +10%). Disney’s first Hannah Montana soundtrack is up 9% at #29.

Next week, UMe’s Now 25 looks to dominate the sales scene, with Capitol’s Yellowcard and Universal Republic’s Colbie Caillat expected to make Top 50 debuts.
