For the fifth time in the last six years, Britney Spears topped Yahoo's most popular search term list for 2006.

Spears shares the top five with fellow blondes Shakira at No. 3, followed by Jessica Simpson and Paris Hilton, who briefly dethroned Spears in 2004. World Wrestling Entertainment sneaked in at No. 2.

Female stars Beyonce Knowles (6), Pamela Anderson (7) and Lindsay Lohan (8) helped to fill out the Top 10.

The most searched news story in 2006 was alligator wrestler Steve Irwin's death followed by the death of Anna Nicole Smith's son. Rounding out the top five were the conflict in Iraq, the Israel-Lebanon battlet and the U.S. elections.
