CHART PREVIEW: SPRINGSTEEN AND VALENTINO LEAD FOUR SOLID BOWS

Boss' DualDisc-Only Release Battling for Chart Honors With Mariah and Bobby Valentino
As the sales-report tally continues this morning, Bruce Springsteen’s Devils & Dust (Columbia) is currently on track to come in at or just shy of 200k, putting it in a three-way battle for #1 with a surging Mariah Carey and crossover comer Bobby Valentino.

The Emancipation of Mimi, Carey's three-week-old Island/IDJ album, got a timely boost from the diva's appearance last week on ABC's The View, and its continued potency provides compelling evidence that the diva has a bona fide smash on her hands. Valentino's self-titled debut album, on sister label DTP/Def Jam/IDJ, has come out of left field to also contend for the top spot on this week's chart. But no matter where Bruce finishes, Devils & Dust, released exclusively in DualDisc format, will give the nascent CD/DVD hybrid one of its best sales weeks yet.

Along with Carey, Rob ThomasSomething to Be is likely to be this week’s only other holdover in the Top 5.

And that’s because R&B sensation Amerie’s Touch (Sony Urban/Columbia) is currently on track to notch a 140k first week, which should be good for #4. Assuming the usual 50% second-week decline, Thomas’ album should make #5 at around 120k.

Besides Bruce, Bobby and Amerie, the week’s fourth-highest debut is shaping up to be Curb’s Jo Dee Messina, whose Delicious Surprise looks like it will land just outside the Top 5 with sales of 90k-100k.

Major releases hitting the streets tomorrow include Nine Inch NailsWith Teeth (Interscope), Limp Bizkit’s The Unquestionable Truth, Part 1 (Geffen) and Fall Out Boy’s From Under the Cork Tree (Island). Initial retailer instincts have NIN doing around 200k, Limp 150k and the ’Boy around 60k.
