THOMPSON NAMED EVP PROMOTION AT IDJ

Will Handle Promotion, Artist Development and New Media.
Greg Thompson has been appointed Executive Vice President Promotion for the Island Def Jam Music Group, it was announced today by Steve Bartels, President, Island Records and COO Island Def Jam Music Group. In this new position, Thompson will oversee the activities of IDJ’s Promotion (excluding urban promotion), Artist Development and New Media Departments. Thompson will remain based in New York and report directly to Bartels.

“Greg is a seasoned music executive whose vast knowledge and talents cross all avenues of the music business,” said Mr. Bartels. “He is a pivotal member of our senior management team and as he returns to the world of promotion, we have every confidence in his ability to bring that same leadership, knowledge and expertise to his new role. Although he will have to work on saying 'hey buddy, you're my guy.'”

“I welcome this challenging new opportunity and the vote of confidence from L.A., Jay and Steve,” said Thompson. “It is exciting to be involved again with my first love, promotion, and to continue the great accomplishments the staff has achieved thus far. Thompson most recently served at the EVP of Sales and Marketing for IDJ. Prior to joining IDJ, he was with the Warner Music Group, where he served as Executive Vice President/General Manager of the Elektra Entertainment Group since 1999. Prior to that, he spent five years as Elektra’s Senior Vice President of Promotion. He began his career at Chrysalis Records in 1985, first as Regional Promotion Manager for the Midwest, and later as Vice President, Top 40 Promotion. In 1991, he was named Senior Vice President, Promotion, at SBK Records. The following year he moved to EMI as Vice President, Promotion, which position he held until joining Elektra. He graduated from Michigan State University in 1984, with the Bachelor of Arts degree in Telecommunications.
