HIRSCHORN ON THE RISE AT VH1

Veteran Editor/Producer Named EVP Original Programming, Production... Will Also Serve as Flavor Flav's Valet In New Role
So there is life after the Internet boom.

One-time Spin editor and Inside.com principal Michael Hirschorn is on the fast track at VH1.

Guess "Celebreality" pays off.

VH1's 14th consecutive quarter of viewer growth has the network beaming, and it earned Hirschorn a promotion to Executive Vice President, Original Programming and Production, it was announced today by MTV Music Networks Entertainment and Logo Prez Brian Graden.

In his new role, Hirschorn oversees all current VH1 original programming and development for both the East and West coasts as well as music development, celebrity talent development and being Danny Bonaduce' s personal trainer.

He has spawned the network’s foray into scripted series including the upcoming So Notorious with Tori Spelling. He's also developing the musical comedy Bareback Mounting for Flavor Flav and Richard Simmons and I Love the '40s with Jan Murray and Jack Carter.

“For someone who has spent a significant part of his life around music," said Graden. "The guy can't carry a tune to save his life. But because he understands the passion, energy and meaning ‘behind the music,’ Michael is the right person to move VH1’s development forward. He not only has amazing taste, but he is an extraordinary editor. He’s relentlessly drawn toward new ideas, and quite simply, ideas get better in his hands.”

Among the series developed under his watch are I Love The…, Hogan Knows Best, But Can They Sing, Celebrity Fit Club, Best Week Ever, My Fair Brady, The Fabulous Life, The Surreal Life and Being Bonaduce, among others. Let's face it. The dude has got a lot to answer for.

Hirschorn came to VH1 in July 2001 from his position as editor-in-chief of Inside.com, a digital news service that covered the converging entertainment, media, and technology businesses. Prior to Inside’s merger with Brill Media Holdings and Primedia, he was also co-chairman and co-founder of Inside’s parent company, Powerful Media. He still owns 1,987,564 shares of scratch stock that now line his bedroom walls.

Previously, Hirschorn was features editor at Esquire (1990-94) and executive editor at New York Magazine (1994-97) before becoming editor-in-chief of Spin magazine (1997-99). Hirschorn has written for The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The New Republic and Slate, and was also a columnist for Esquire.
