UMG MUM ABOUT VIDEO CHANNEL, DESPITE SITE

Proprietary “International Music Feed” Video Channel May Soon Make Its Debut
Universal Music Group’s promise to debut its own music-video cable channel may soon be fulfilled.

Details are precious few at the moment, and the UMG cone of silence currently envelops all aspects of the project’s development, but we do know this: The channel will be called the International Music Feed and it is going to happen.

As the name suggests, the channel will apparently take on an international, one-world flavor, presenting the work of breaking artists from around the globe alongside top U.S. talent. Whether they’ll all be signed to UMG labels isn’t known at this time, but many think it’s likely.

IMF is being spearheaded by television, label and radio vet Andy Schuon, who is President of the channel. Schuon, of course, previously worked in a broadcasting/ new media capacity for UMG as head of Doug and Jimmy’s Farmclub.com and has held top jobs at MTV, Warner Bros. Records, Pressplay and Infinity Broadcasting. Former MTV programming colleague Greg Drebin is on board as Executive Vice President, Programming and Production.

As we mentioned, UMG’s lips are sealed about the project for the time being, but we have it on good authority that Schuon, Drebin and team are working feverishly to finalize programming, work out technical issues and secure carriage for the nascent channel. While a launch date (or month) isn’t available yet, IMF appears to be edging closer to becoming a reality.

A “placeholder” Web site is currently online at www.internationalmusicfeed.com. We’re assured that everything on it can and will change in the days to come (except the name), but there is an interesting note posted on the “About Us” page, signed by Schuon and Drebin:

“IMF, the International Music Feed, went live on January 20th of this year, and was founded on the thought that great music comes from all over the world. Until now, it was impossible to see and hear all the artists and music we present every day on IMF. Music truly is universal, and we’re committed to creating a “Pangaea,” or single continent, with the videos and other music programs we offer. Every day you can see all the best new music from the U.S., plus the biggest hits from every other country in the world."

Music truly is Universal. Get it?

The note continues: “Hopefully you’ll not only like the music on IMF, but you’ll also enjoy the sense of discovery that comes with it. So, call your cable or satellite company and tell them you want to get the International Music Feed.”

Will IMF unite the world? Stay tuned.
