Spankin New Music: Now & Next Week programming on MTV and MTV2 alone reached over 28 million viewers, while over 1.5 million visitors were driven to music content on MTV.com and MTV Overdrive during the festivities.
“Spankin New Music Week is the next step in our multiplatform revolution, giving fans unparalleled access to the best music on every single MTV screen from both new and established artists,” said MTV President Christina Norman. “Working with labels and artists, we were able to support the most diverse line up of performers in our history, reaching literally millions of fans on-air and online to showcase more new music then ever before.”
Warner Bros. CEO Tom Whalley obviously agrees. “Working with MTV on two ground breaking campaigns for Madonna and Green Day has been a tremendous success story,” he said. “The inclusion of MTV's multi-tiered elements coinciding with the timing of Spankin New Music Week has had a huge impact on the success of both these projects.”
Spankin New Music: Now & Next Weeks mission was to connect fans to their favorite artists, while introducing them to new music along the way. Each day on TRL, for instance, big name artists like 50 Cent, Simple Plan, Jay-Z and others introduced viewers to up-and-coming artists such as Olivia, Ne-Yo and Avenged Sevenfold, among others. The week also saw the premiere of the new MTV performance series, Life & Rhymes, with episodes featuring 50 Cent and Kanye West on MTV.
In addition to the aforementioned artists, others featured throughout the week included Pharrell, Robin Thicke, The Click 5, Chris Brown, Shakira, Hillary Duff, Yellowcard, Lindsay Lohan, Mary J. Blige, Lil Wayne, Nelly, Jamie Foxx, Juelz Santana, Daddy Yankee, Motion City Soundtrack, The Academy Is, MIA, Little Brother, Korn, Damien Marley, Weezer, Slim Thug, HIM, R. Kelly, Snoop Dogg, Usher, Floetry, Sean Paul, James Blunt, Fiona Apple, Ft. Minor, Against Me!, SIA and OAR, among numerous others.
