AOL MUSIC'S 2005 MUSIC ROUNDUP

In Which the AOL Music Staff Expresses Itself, "Best of" Style, and We Post It So It Looks Like We Did Something Today
’Tis the season to roll out as many best-of lists as possible, so that we each may tie up our 2005 memories in neat little boxes with some of the left-over holiday ribbon we might otherwise use to hang ourselves. Post-holiday depression? Who needs that when you’ve got rankings?

Thanks to our friends at AOL Music for providing their take on the year’s best music, thus giving us yet another year-endy morsel with which to “freshen” our humble piece of the cyberpie.

According to the good folks at AOL Music, Kanye West’s Late Registration was the year’s best album release. Other albums making the cut: Coldplay’s X&Y, releases from AOL Music Breaker artists Fall Out Boy and The Bravery, and Bruce Springsteen’s 30th anniversary Born to Run three-disc set.

Song-wise, it was all about The Arcade Fire’s “Rebellion (Lies),” Bloc Party’s “Banquet,” Madonna’s “Hung Up,” Kelly Clarkson’s “Since You Been Gone” and West’s “Gold Digger.”

The AOL Music team has also identified 10 artists you may not have heard yet (or lately), but may be hearing more from in the months to come. These are: Louis XIV, The Best Little Secrets Are Kept ; Michiru Yamane, Castlevania: The Curse of Darkness Soundtrack; Bullet for My Valentine, Hand of Blood; Doves, Some Cities; Nobuo Uematsu, Final Fantasy: Advent Children; Early Man, Closing In; Embrace, Out of Nothing; Koi Otani, Shadow of Colossus; Demon Hunter, The Triptych; and Turbonegro, Party Animals.

And finally, AOL Music’s top “music moments” of the year include Bob Dylan’s No Direction Home, Clarkson’s aforementioned “Since You Been Gone, the Live 8 concerts and West’s also-aforementioned (twice) Late Registration.
