“Mariah Carey is proving to be one of the biggest records of the year, and it doesn’t surprise me at all that she’s moved back into the number one spot in the nation this week. says Virgin Entertainment Group's Jerry Suarez. But this coming week is all about Coldplay. The hype has been deafening and it already looks like it’s going to outpace all expectations. Great record plus great press.”
System Of A Down (American/Columbia) moved up to #2 at 117k sold as they continue their “Mezmerizing” sales story. Last week’s chart toppers Audioslave (Interscope/Epic) finished at #3 with 97k sold. Rounding out the Top 5 are Country singer Toby Keith (Dreamworks Nashville) at #4 and right behind is Gwen Stefani (Interscope), whose “Hollaback Girl” still rules the Top 40 world.
50 Cent (Shady/Aftermath/Interscope) came in at #6 with over 74k just barely beating out Dave Matthews Band (RCA/RMG), which held its position at #7. Common (Geffen), who debuted at #2 last week, came in at #8 a fall off of 60%. Rounding out the top 10 are Kelly Clarkson (RCA/RMG) who shot to #9 this week up 15% from last week and Il Divo (Columbia).
This week's top debut is turned in by British Rockers Oasis (Epic), who finished at #12 with over 64k sold.
Coldplay, Black Eyed Peas and White Stripes will all debut strong next week, with Coldplay leading the pack by a huge margin. Another big story will be Epic’s Shakira, whose Spanish speaking record looks to do around 100k and possibly set records for an all Spanish language debut.
