WEASEL PURSUIT ABOVE THE ATMOSPHERE: Major label reps were out in force for the Carl Stubner-managed Luna Halo show last Monday (11/8) at the Viper Room. Since the band has completed demos with producer Matt Mahafee, label reps have been in pursuit. Creative Artist Agency recently picked up the booking duties for the act, thus fueling the label heat. Barrister Kent Marcus will mediate the weaseltude. If you missed the band’s L.A. show, their next gig is at The End in Nashville on 11/18. Check ’em out, unless the band is taken off the market before to the show... Meanwhile, A&R hitters were also checking out Athens, Ohio band Red Wanting Blue. Private label showcases are already scheduled for Hollywood, Warner Bros., Columbia and Capitol. The band’s new album, The Cold Lover, was released last month. Stay tuned... The Jeff Saltzman-produced This Blue Holiday held showcases at Cole Rehearsal last week. A total of 12 labels showcased privately. Word on the street is that follow-up meetings are scheduled and no more showcases will be done. So if you snoozed, you loozed... Lots of chatter building over the John Parker-produced tracks by Summer Obsession. The three-piece group is reportedly in private showcase request mode. Legal eagle Ian Montone will be handling legal duties... At press time, word on the street is that the deal for DreamWorks Publishing is not going to either former Warner Music exec Rob Dickens or Cherry Lane Publishing, but to a private investment group... Looks like the deal for The Veronicas is closing soon with an East Coast-based label. The deal is rumored to be in the seven-figure range... Indie label Doghouse Records, former home of DreamWorks/Interscope act All-American Rejects, has reportedly entered into a development deal with Warner Bros. for acts like Say Anything, the Honorary Title and Limbeck, among others. Doghouse will continue to be distributed by Lumberjack (which is also owned by the label's Dirk Hemsath)... BUZZ/GIGS: The buzz continues for Shadows Fall. Expect weasels to be turning out for their House of Blues show in L.A. this Wednesday (11/10). Meanwhile, more weasel action continues at HOB on the Sunset strip on Friday (11/12) as Doghouse Records act Say Anything hits the stage with Hot Rod Circuit and Victory Records darlings Straylight Run. And finaly, check out The So And So’s at the Mercury Lounge in NYC on Monday (11/15)... BUZZIN’: The piano player at Mastro’s... Hit me up: [email protected]
