PIERO'S BUENO AT SONY

Marketing Vet Giramonti Named Senior Vice President Video and DVD Production
Just call it the full Giramonti.

We just did as Piero Giramonti is named Senior Vice President, Video and DVD Production for Sony Music U.S. by President Don Ienner. Giramonti was previously Sr. VP Worldwide Marketing at Epic Records since 2002. He was Sr. VP Marketing from 2001-02 at the label before that.

The two celebrated with a couple of heaping portions of linguini and clams.

In this new role, Giramonti will oversee the creation and production of all music videos and DVDs, as well as production of electronic press kits (EPKs), and long-form music projects for the company. He’ll work with the likes of CRG’s Will Botwin, Epic’s Steve Barnett, Legacy’s Jeff Jones, Sony Music Nashville’s John Grady, Sony Urban’s Lisa Ellis and Sony Classical’s Peter Gelb.

Said Ienner: "Piero’s passion, dedication and visionary approach to music video combine to make him the perfect choice to lead our efforts in this key area. He’s played a key role in establishing Epic Records as the top label in terms of DVD and music video sales for two years, andthis new and expanded role will provide him with the opportunity to extend that success to all of our labels and divisions. I look forward to working closely with Piero as we continue to build on Sony Music’s status as the market leader in music video. And he’s promised to get me a copy of that Paris Hilton tape I’ve been hearing so much about."

Added Giramonti: "I thank Don Ienner for this chance to contribute to the overall growth and development of Sony Music, and I look forward to working with all of the U.S. company’s labels and divisions as we identify and develop new ways of using music video to expand the relationship between our artists and their fans. And we’re going to start by installing a secret camera in the office bathrooms."

Giramonti’s Epic projects included groundbreaking music videos from Celine Dion, Jennifer Lopez, Good Charlotte and Audioslave, and several successful music DVD releases, including AC/DC, Tenacious D and Shakira. The label has been the U.S. marketshare leader in music video and DVD music video sales for the past two years. Giramonti was also a marketing chief at Virgin, EMI International and Capitol.
