MTV VMAS MIAMI: SIX FOR DIX

MTV Sr. VP Music & Talent Programming Michele Dix Answers Six Questions About This Year's Bash, Then Hangs Up

With MTV’s 2004 Music Video Awards set to take place in Miami this Sunday (8/29), the industry’s abuzz with the excitement of the show’s first down-south sojourn. Will new Mayor of Miami Shaquille O’Neal provide a key to the city? Will Crockett and Tubbs show? Will the winners all go out for the Early Bird shrimp? Did Tony Montana really die at the end of Scarface? Fortunately, MTV Sr. VP Music and Talent Programming Michele Dix was willing to field six of HITS’ toughest questions.

1. How are you adjusting to doing a show in a place you’ve never done it before?
It’s really been business as usual. But since we’re in Miami and it’s a hot, sexy city, Van [Toffler] wanted to really get in the spirit and decided to go for a full Brazilian and bring Governor McGreevy as his date.

2. What will you do in Miami you couldn’t do in either New York or Los Angeles?
The move to Miami gives us the opportunity to change the entire show around: new venue, new ways to stage the show, new arrivals via water. New everything, including new ways to say "no."

3. Has it been a problem to get talent to come to a city other than N.Y. or L.A.?
No, only a host.

4. Are Michael Moore and Bill O’Reilly going to present together?
Present? No, the plan was to have them re-enact the Madonna/Britney lip-lock.

5. How will you make sure the voting on the awards isn’t rigged by Jeb Bush?
Linda Alexander and Kathy Flynn are joining forces with Jimmy Carter and a team of international observers to make sure all votes are counted and that only the beautiful people win.

6. Would you consider doing the VMAs in Boca next time, so Trakin’s mother can attend?
Funny you should mention that, because plans are already in the works: Red Carpet starts at noon and is sponsored by "Mi Amiga" motorized wheelchairs; post-show theme is "Bingo Boca Style!"
