Not surprisingly, the market will be down 50% from last week's end-of-the-year sales rush, though the extra 53rd week will result in 2004 being up 3% in total sales over 2003.

WEEK IN PREVIEW: EMINEM, GREEN DAY ALIVE IN '05

Sales Down 50% Over Last Week, Though 2004 Is Up 3%, Thanks to Extra Week
Eminem's Encore and Green Day's American Idiot appear to be the main beneficiaries of kids spending their holiday dollars.

In early reports, those two albums will fight it out for the #1 slot on this week's sales chart, with both looking to sell just this side of the 200k range.

Not surprisingly, the market will be down 50% from last week's end-of-the-year sales rush, though the extra 53rd week will result in 2004 being up 3% in total sales over 2003.

The rest of this week's Top 10, which should all top 100k, will be, in no particular order, Jay-Z/Linkin Park (Warner Bros.) Lil' Jon & the East Side Boyz (TVT) Now 17 (Capitol), Destiny's Child (Columbia), Usher (LaFace/ZLG), U2 (Interscope), Tupac and Ludacris (Def Jam South/IDJ).

Eminem, U2 and Tupac would give Interscope three of the Top 10 on the first chart of the new year.
