CHART PREVIEW: SHAKIRA, CHRIS BROWN IN THE #1 HUNT

Trouble Is, So are System, Kenny, Now, Get Rich and Madonna. Go Figure.
It’s still far from clear who will end up at #1 this week, but as the numbers come in and the counting continues, Shakira and Chris Brown lead the pack of new releases set to debut on this week’s album chart.

Indeed, Shakira’s Oral Fixation, Vol. 2 (Epic) and Brown’s self-titled effort (Jive) are each looking at first weeks in the neighborhood of 150k apiece, meaning either could end up with highest debut honors. It also means both could be in the running for #1.

Last week’s #1, System of a Down’s Hypnotize (American/Columbia) is also expected to have finished its second weed with another 150k or so sold, putting it the #1 mix as well. And then there’s Kenny Chesney’s The Road and the Radio (BNA), Now 20 (UTV), the Get Rich or Die Tryin’ soundtrack (Shady/Aftermath/Interscope) and Madonna’s Confessions on a Dancefloor). Yep, they’re all expected to log around 150k for the week, and that makes them additional contenders for #1.

Also set to debut on this week’s chart are the post-Rock Star INXS, whose new album, Switch (Epic) is looking at a first-week total of around 80k. The Dave Matthews Band’s life Weekend on the Rocks (RCA), meanwhile, appears headed for a total of 50k for the week.

Keep your eye on the HITS Building Album Chart from now through tomorrow afternoon to see how all of the above shakes out. Truthfully, we’re as interested to find out as you are—we just drool more. Thank you.
