"Norah Jones just won’t quit. She continues to be one of the great sales stories of 2002, and now 2003 as well. The Grammys could well propel her into another level altogether."

MORE NORAH!!!

Multi-Grammy Nominee Norah Jones Continues to Hold on to #1 Slot Over Jennifer Lopez, Dixie Chicks, Avril Lavigne, Justin Timberlake
This Blue Note’s apparently for everyone.

After her debut album grabbed a field-high eight Grammy nominations last week, EMI diva Norah Jones took advantage of the award-season buzz to mark her second week at the top of the charts with 104k in sales, making it the only CD to top the six-figure mark.

Can’t we get a TV guy in to fix things?

Amazon.com’s Kevin Hawkins took some time from watching Fox’s Man Versus Beast to convince 100 monkeys at 100 typewriters to pen the following quote: "Norah Jones just won’t quit. She continues to be one of the great sales stories of 2002, and now 2003 as well. The Grammys could well propel her into another level altogether."

A diva of a different stripe, Epic’s Jennifer Lopez climbed over Open Wide/Monument/Columbia country trio Dixie Chicks (#3) and Arista sk8te-punk thrush Avril Lavigne (#4) to take the #2 spot, while Jive teenpop idol Justin Timberlake rounded out the Top Five.

Hawkins has his eye on Lavigne to see if her SNL appearance last weekend will boost her on next week’s chart: "It will also be interesting to see if it might allow her to get to the #1 slot for the first time. Or if she can outrun a giraffe in a 100-yard dash."

Four-time AMA winner Eminem may have been a no-show at event, but represented in the Top 10 with the Shady/Interscope/UMG Strx. album 8 Mile at #6 and Aftermath/Interscope’s The Eminem Show at #10.

It remains to be seen whether their performances on the AMA telecast will spike Mercury/IDJ’s Shania Twain, (#7 this week), RCA’s Christina Aguilera (#8) and Goldmind/Elektra’s Missy Elliott #(9).

Major chart jumps were recorded by RCA icon Elvis Presley (19-12), J’s Rod Stewart (22-14), Capitol’s Coldplay (35-23). Epic’s Chevelle (46-29, with the week’s only sales increase at 5%), Arista’s Pink (39-31) and Murder Inc./IDJ’s Source Hip-Hop Vol. 6 compilation (48-35). Interscope’s Queens of the Stone Age was the only newcomer, returning at #46.

For those looking for the 2003 record-selling season to get under way, you’ll have to wait until Jan. 28, when new releases are on tap from Motown/Universal’s Erykah Badu, Jive’s R. Kelly and Reprise’s Zwan, the new band from Smashing Pumpkins’ leader Billy Corgan.
